The Oscars
I watched the entire Oscars broadcast for the first time in a few years. I have usually missed it because I was not able to watch it. However, I made a point of watching it this year for several reasons. First, I was dying to see Hugh Jackman host. I love him. I also was pulling for Brad Pitt to win for Best Actor even though I knew his chances were slim considering the performances of Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke. I mostly wanted to see Heath Ledger get the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal of The Joker in "The Dark Knight." When he won, I cheered. He deserved it because he did an amazing job. I enjoyed the show and as I often do, I found myself wishing that I could be surrounded by all of that star power just once in my life. Maybe if I return to SoCal, I can be. Who knows. I suppose that I will have to watch "Slumdog Millionaire" so that I can see what all the fuss is about. I was not surprised that they racked up so many awards. The best speech came from Kate Winslet, whom I love. It was so nice to hear her father whistle so clearly in order for her to identify him in the audience. She is a remarkable actress. I cannot wait to see the movies that will potentially be up for awards next year. So, until next year....
